Do you love horses? Enough to take them camping?
Some people are horse people…and then there is the rest of the world. I loved horses BUT because of a horrifying episode on a family vacation many years ago, I now have an overall fear of them. It all started with a “guided tour” on an established trail and me as a pre-teen sitting on a beautiful but very thirsty creature. As the trail wrapped around a slowly flowing creek, my gentle giant decided it was time to quench his thirst. As we departed the trail, our tour guide began yelling at me to pull the reigns to get my horse back on track. I did…but the horse didn’t care! The guide quickly became my knight in shining armor when he jumped off of his horse to race to my side and manage my horse back to the trail. All was good but that little episode made a lasting impression on me. So, when I see wild horses at the campsite, I admire their beauty from afar and only get close through my camera’s telephoto lens. Sure, I see wild horses when we’re camping…but, I have to admit I was a little surprised when I found TheHorse.com article about the number of people who take their horses camping with them. After all, they are still ‘giants’ in my eyes. Psst we’re compensated…see our disclosures.
