The Thanksgiving Holiday: What Are You Thankful For?
Life is hard…Here’s the best secret weapon: Worship
Lots of people take time to reflect on life during the Thanksgiving holiday season. One of the things I’m thankful for is hiking on camp trips! Not only is hiking loaded with fun, excitement and adventure…it’s also a time for quiet contemplation in the midst of nature.
I’ll admit that sometimes life is so hard that a camping trip turns into more of a time to recharge my batteries to a “hang on and you’ll get through this” level rather than a “peak performance set for top speed” level. And, the weird thing is…that outcome is totally cool. Psst we’re compensated…see our disclosures.
Let’s hike to the peak
You know when you go hiking on a camp trip, you start at the base of a mountain and your hike takes you to the top. You always have the peak in mind…you strive to reach it. The view at the top is always so magical and breathtaking. If you are not careful, you will be so focused on the top that you don’t appreciate the beauty at the bottom. The view is different at the bottom…you usually can’t see too far ahead on your path, you might even have debris in you path, there might be water you need to cross, you have obstacles blocking your forward movement but it is still beautiful…it’s just a different kind of view and your progress is slower than you planned.
Life is full of peaks and valleys
Sure, we all want life to be full of peaks and never…ever…ever have a valley! But, come on…that’s just not real. We all have problems…they may be different for each of us…health, job, money, relationships and so on, and so on, and so on. Problems exist for everyone. It has not been an easy journey but I have learned to embrace the valleys of life and you can too. It is in those times that we grow and get strength we didn’t know was possible. It is a time to seek God and a time to worship Him.
Words of widsom
Destiny: Let God Use You Like He Made You
Pastor Tony Evans (one of my absolute favorite preachers!) offered some encouragement when he said you can overcome a lot if you have a reason to live and you are following God’s calling on your life. He wrote the book Destiny: Let God Use You Like He Made You which is totally awesome! I hope you take time to be thankful for the peaks and valleys in your life during this Thanksgiving season whether you are celebrating at a campsite or in the middle of the big city. Worship God and He will help you to make sense of this thing we call life.
