1. Bacon Wrapped Grilled Cheese
Who knew you could wrap a grilled cheese sandwich in bacon to make a crazy delicious ooey, gooey, melty cheese delicious lunch? You start with two slices of bread and 4 slices of cheddar cheese, then wrap the stack in about 6 slices of bacon. You’ll fry it on a grill pan over hot coals of a campfire or in a small skillet on a camp stove. Watch our Bacon Wrapped Grilled Cheese VIDEO to see how!
I like serving rich foods with a refreshing side salad like my Refrigerator Cucumber Salad. It combines sliced cucumbers, red onion and bell pepper slices in a homemade dressing. The best part is that you can make it ahead of time and keep refrigerated for up to 2 months! It’s a great addition to your meal plan on a hot summer day. See all of my make ahead camping meals.
2. Big Mac Sloppy Joes
These sloppy joes taste even better than McDonald’s signature burger! Especially after you add my copycat secret sauce!
3. Camping Breakfast Sandwiches
The best way to make a super-simple hearty breakfast is to use simple ingredients that require minimal prep and cook quickly. One of our favorite camping breakfast ideas is to toast English muffins then add a fried egg and a slice of cheese with a breakfast meat. You can use a variety of meats like bacon slices, breakfast sausage patties or Canadian bacon.
4. Pesto And Turkey Grilled Cheese
My favorite way to prepare camping sandwiches is by buttering the bread and grilling it till it’s golden brown. These are the best easy camping meals.
This recipe starts with a sliced loaf of bread, sour dough in this case, then you’ll butter it and layer thin-sliced deli lunchmeat with provolone cheese, prepared pesto sauce and a few fresh basil leaves. There are several different ways to cook them:
- On a camp stove using a non-stick or cast iron skillet
- Another great way is to use a pie iron
- Over campfire coals using a griddle
- An alternative great option is to use foil packets. Just prepare the sandwich and place it on a piece of aluminum foil then seal it. Place over hot coals and turn so both sides get toasted. Tin foil packs are the best idea for easy cleanup.
5. Hobo Eggs
We don’t have many 8-minute camp stove recipes but this is one of them! You’ll melt a little butter over medium heat, place the bread in the butter, crack the egg into the hole and you’ve got the perfect way to make a super-fast breakfast that’s got protein and fiber on your plate almost instantly. Watch our VIDEO to see how!
6. Pastrami Reuben Sandwich
This is one of the best camping recipes for a quick dinner. The toasted rye bread and melted cheese are complimented by warmed pastrami, sauerkraut and Thousand Island salad dressing. It’s a good choice when making camping meals for two. But, it’s really easy to scale, up or down, so it’s a great idea if you’re looking for easy camping meals for large groups.
7. French Dip Beef Sandwiches
A hot, hearty sandwich is perfect if you’re looking for simple winter camping recipes. An easy way to prepare these at home is to place all of the ingredients in a freezer bag, then store in your freezer so it’s ready for your next camping trip. Then, just defrost at the campsite to “dump and cook” at camp.
Leftover idea: If I have leftover meat, I’ll make mini Philly cheesesteak sandwich bites for appetizers. I’ll pour a bit of olive oil in a pan to make some caramelized onions. Then re-heat the meat and serve on dinner rolls topped with a bit of melted mozzarella cheese and sliced into bite-sized pieces. Check out all of our ideas to make scrumptious camping snacks.
8. Chuckwagon Sandwich
This is one of my favorite easy campfire recipes. You basically build a deli sandwich using a hamburger bun, deli meats, cheeses and condiments like tangy mustard and mayonnaise. Then, wrap it in foil and heat slightly. I like serving with potato or tortilla chips and pickles. Check out all of our campfire meals in foil.
9. Dutch Oven Beef Sandwiches
This is one of my favorite Dutch oven camping recipes because it uses only 3 ingredients! You’ll start with chuck roast beef and a jar of Greek Peperoncini peppers, which are available in any local grocery store. The roast simmers for a few hours until the meat is fork tender. You’ll shred the meat and serve it on ingredient #3: hoagie rolls. The brine in the pepper jar adds a unique flavor to this dish.
10. Diablo Sandwich
Don’t make typical sloppy joes when you can make this Tex-Mex version that’s slightly spicy. This is one of my favorite one pot camping meals. You can serve the meat mixture on a bun without adding anything else, or, you can add some extras. My family’s favorite toppings include avocado slices, sour cream and cilantro.
It’s a good idea to serve a cold salad on the side to balance the heat of the meat. I like using a cole slaw blend (with cabbage and carrots) and toss with a prepared dressing.
11. Bacon Basil Tomato Ciabatta Sandwich
If you’re looking for really fast camping lunch ideas, try this one. I like to cook extra bacon when I’m already making it for breakfast. 12. Grilled Greek Pita Sandwich Recipe
I love the pillowy texture of pita bread. It turns ordinary sandwiches into amazing camping dinner recipes. Here we marinate chicken for a few hours then quickly grill it using our propane or charcoal grill. Or, over campfire coals if we have wood that adds a nice flavor to meat, like mesquite.
I make the Tzatziki Sauce at home and keep it refrigerated until I’m ready to serve the meal. The whole family can top their own sandwiches according to their preferences. I like using romaine lettuce, red onion, tomatoes, Kalamata olives and crumbled feta cheese. See all of our easy grilling recipes for camping.
13. Basil And Prosciutto Sandwich
This Italian sandwich makes a really tasty lunch. A simple vinaigrette is made with garlic, olive oil and balsamic vinegar. It can be made in advance and stored in the refrigerator for 2 weeks. At camp, you’ll spread some of it on the ciabatta rolls, then, you’ll layer prosciutto, fresh mozzarella cheese, tomatoes and basil leaves for a quick meal.
If you want a vegetarian version, eliminate the prosciutto and you’ll have a yummy caprese sandwich! I like serving easy camping salads with this type of meal. These stuffed tortillas are so simple, you just have to toss together a little deli ham and cheese with some lettuce, chopped apple and a prepared honey mustard salad dressing. I’m using a spinach tortilla wrap to make this a gluten free camping food option but you can use any type of wrap you have available.
19. BLT Camping Wraps
Bacon, lettuce and tomato sammys are a classic summertime treat. Here, I’m tossing the ingredients so they are totally coated with the mayo before rolling them into a wrap. I like the texture and flavor better than the traditional version on bread or toast. An added bonus, I’m using spinach instead of lettuce because it tends to last longer than other types of leaf lettuce.

Hamburgers and hot dogs seem to be on everyone’s camp meal plan. I don’t make them often, but, when I do I like using a big, all-beef hot dog on a nice potato bun with lots of condiments for toppings. Then, I’ll server several camping side dishes.
One of my favorites is an easy retro side. The tender potatoes are tossed with hard boiled eggs, onion and celery in a simple homemade sauce to make this Polish Potato Salad Recipe.
If you’d prefer fries on the side, try my Grilled Potato Wedges, they’re really yummy with my simple Chipotle Mayonnaise.
